To say a 282dsl. (560) is one of the better engines is an insult to IH. They blew head gaskets, puked the sleeves into the crankcase and suffered other ailments and are they are lightly built. I know some guys got good service from them but others had nothing but problems. The 361/407, 414/436/466 are a differen't story and have earned my utmost respect as excellent, durable engines. Go with something else besides the 282

you will need the 560 flywheel and frame rails, pressure plate and disk from the M do to IPTO splines in the pressure plate of the 560. Im only guessing that the M clutch will work on the 560 flywheel.

I kinda feel bad for Jerry, a guy with no life that makes fun of people for owning IH tractors. So jerry if IH is junk what is a better tractor? what tractors do you own?

anyways does anyone have a picture of an M/560 or an H/460 I'd love to see one

The tractor and the motor are both junk. Send them both to the scrap yard. That way you`ll get more than either one is worth.

The 560 diesel to some can be argued as one of the best engines ever made. There have been many Deere's in my family and they have been good, but I feel that IH motors like the 560 diesel and the 407 rank among the best of all colors. That is just my opinion. Don't let that Jerry guy get you down, from what I have seen from previous posts he is just merely a keyboard mechanic.

Unless you just have parts laying around looking for a home, go with something bigger. A 407 or 466 will bolt right in the same bellhousing Just need to make a flywheel, big clutch, get your throttle linkage worked out and extend things a little.

You should be able to just bolt the 560 rails to the M, I know thats what they do when they put a 460 engine in an H

It will line up with no problem. The frame rails though will need to be made longer since the motor is longer. Also your hood and steering shaft will have to be lengthened.

Saw this done with a 706 gas, largest obstacle was the flywheel clutch, some adaptation required.
