I know you all heard this question lots of times before but I am new to the farm stock pulling scene. My son got me into it. Anyway, on a 36' 'A' If I bore to .125 over, put in high compression pistons, a later model a crank, an gasoline manifold. What kind of HP can I expect? Also, should I do anything to the cam? I was gonna let the DLTX 18 carb on and rebuild it. Am I on the right track here? Any help is appreciated. I'm gearin up to beat my kid! LOL -Tom

Your heading in the right direction. Lenghten the rods about .400 or so and no ring on top grove. A KNOWN regrind cam. Stock 71 (Late A gas) carburator. You can get fancy with the head work. Port it, put the intakes into the exhaust and enlarge the exhaust seat area to fit. Put G valves in the intake hole, ream the guide for bigger G stem dia.. Enlarge the intake seat area to fit. Modify the end of the stem for keepers and proper finished length. Late styled A clutch and first reduction. My dad runs a 37 A set up this way and it will "Get R Done" in 2nd gear most of the time turning 15.5-38's 5100 & 5600# classes running 108 octane fuel. There are a lot of ways to skin this cat. This is just another. Have fun.

Try the set-up your talking about. Grinding cam is your choice but, I have a ground cam, hot mag, 5 3/4 bore, and a late crank. My 8 yr old boy pulls 4000 in 2nd gear and I can pull 5500 in 1st without choking running 15.5/38's. Good Luck and have fun.

Try the setup you're thinking about and run it. You will see no gain with a reground High-Perf. cam with those cubes, but if you really want to change the cam, you could try one from a 620. Don't get too caught up with dyno numbers. Your A would probably only dyno about 40 HP with this setup, but you would notice a definate torque increase. By the way, if you ever build a 6.125x9 A and get over 100 HP, you're doing real good. I think that's a little optimistic for 530 cubes.

You can gain power on small cubes w/ a regound cam. I gained 5hp on a 335ci 60. The 620 cam would be a waste of time.

I have the same set up. The cam I used out of my radical u/s A after I put in a differnt one. The head is ported and bigger valves. It pull good in in the 4500 and 5000 farmstock first gear only. Hp with your set up won"t be over 40-45. mine is pushing 50. Go with a 9 in stroke and 6.125 bore, big head and cam with a bored carb you be pushing 100+

Andy, Is this dynoed HP on the 9x6.125? I have this setup with a big head, reground cam, with work done on the intake and carb but have never had it on a dyno and have always wondered what kind of HP that would make.
Thanks,
GET

Depending on what your camshaft is and which big head it is (JWMS or ported Heisler) then you should be in the 90's and with everything tuned right, knocking on the door of 100. You are going to have to dyno it to tune the last few hp into it (carb and timing settings).

I have a 6.125x9.125 in the 90's running in the 1100-1200rpm range w/ a JWMS head. Hoping to gain a few more with a Heisler, and make that power at a little lower RPM.

- What do you think about the dltx 18 carb? What tire size are you running? I just got this tractor and it has 11 rims on flat spokes. -Tom
