ARP Farmall M Head Studs

Anyone know where i can get ARP or better than stock headstuds for a farmall M?? I think after a few forktruck dragin runs @ 15psi boost, I need them!! Not sure though, gasket seems to be holding but i had some black droplets on my hood after starting it this morning :( Thanks for any help!

Could be condensation,, if the radiator is not overpressurizing out the overflow Id doubt its leaking water. They still use the stock head studs in strokers that would be darn near equal cyl pressure that a turbo can produce. If the nuts are questionable though,,,,, the stud can be junk too, pulled threads,,,, Did you put the head gasket on dry with no sealer?

no i used that fancy spray copper stuff, the gasket said it didnt need retorquing warm but maybe i should. While i got you here Chad, do you hear of very many people turbo'in these things. Man it sure runs good, i would like to be able to pull against someone else with one. Not to put down a n/a stroker but this whole setup cost me $137.48 from ebay stuff and i would think i am to at least 80hp hopefully 100!

There is one running around a few miles south of me here in Indiana, and there was a gentleman that posts on here that has one as well. I think Id double check the torque on the head just to be safe,,, That cant hurt, and if there is one or five loose, thats where it will pop the gasket. There would be no doubt in my mind that it could be up to 100hp,,,, Id like to see it on alcohol,,, That would be the cats meow right there! 125-150hp range easy if it is 100 now. I would think that if it is a kerosine model engine,,, you could stuff alot more boost to it,,,, more room to fill up. Chad

I highly reccomend ARP fasteners. I worked for a NASCAR and INDY car engine builder for three years and we used them exclusively. I am using them in critical parts of my GVI, such as the clutch. I am sure they can make whatever you need if it is not a stock item. They are pricey but worth the investment.

Oh yea it is on alcohol kinda, E85. I've been runnin it because the 105 octane rating so i could limit detonation. It also burns a little cooler right? Thought it would be better for the charger? I wish i knew how to get a picture up on here, everything fits inside the hood and only the huge fuelpump is visible.:)

Are you running the E85 straight, or cutting it back with pump gas?? If its pure,,, try a 50/50 mix,,,, lots more low end torque,, you got the compression pressure to run it 50/50 with 93 pump gas, it will run on it,,, Ive ran engines with 300psi at cranking speed in farmall's and never pinged, acted up, Im sure your not upthat high in cyl pressure, but its up there,,, possibly in the 230-250psi range if it could be checked at full boost. Chad S, should i have any major concerns as far as stuff coming apart? I know rpms is the number one killer so i have it goverend right at 1500. I figure with all the stroking of stock cranks to get 100hp wouldn't 100 hp through the short stroke be softer? The few people who has heard this thing run thinks she is about to blow, but for testing purposes i have loaded it to 20psi with no problems. I think 10-15 sounds reasonable? I would like to send you some pics to see what you think? I have seen other setups but i have gone to great lengths to make this appear as stock as possible.(no i do not intend pulling it in a stock class!)

Id be more afraid of a big stroker comming apart. If you have had this thing all apart, and all the bolts been retorqued, I would not worry too much. But if it hasnt,,, Id go back when you have time, and pull the flywheel and clutch apart, clean em up, make sure its straight, put in higher grade bolts for the pressure plate, and make sure the flywheel bolts are tightened to specs, and old tractor that has been running for a while,,, lets say 25 years of hard work since its last rebuild, Id be leary,,,, they will come apart,, eventually,, so,, Check the input shaft bolts on the tranny,,,, replace them if needed, or just for kicks,,, thats where it usually starts to break,,, run new oil and the thickest your weather will allow you to have in the rear end. Do you have any kind of wastegate on the turbo?? are you operating it by hand or??? Yeah, 15psi for a while should be ok,,, just get to know it better,,,, listen to it, dont get stupid,,, A rednecks famous last words are,,, "Hey ya all!!! Watch this!!!" K??? Thanks Chad, i have already checked the "wobble connection" and input shaft key. All is good and tight. I will check the clutch next. As for boost control, i "retrofitted" a fluid bypass valve i found at my canning factory to bypass air. It is fully adjustable with a T handle from 1-100 psi or so. Works very well, quite noisy sometimes! I think the little import racers call it a BOV? Anywho sendin the pictures next, just took them today and run her up and down the road while it was warm. Thanks again for your help. Meet me at a pull somewhere and take a hook on her!

if Im ever in the area, Ill take you up on it. Ive yet to have any wobblers come loose yet,,, those little rubber washers shrink up and lose the torque. Only thought I want to leave with you as far as safety,,,, I would not let anyone do anything I would not do myself. Ive got some photos of my tractors Ill send back to you too! ChadS
