Will it help or hurt if you run a tire on a wider rim than it calls for? Say a 12.4 on a 12in rim.
Thanks Shaggy

I have a set of 13-6 on 14 in rimms and run 7 psi in them. They have hooked very well for past 6 years on two of my tractors in 4000-6500.I add 2psi for eavy 1000#.I have tryed lot of differt setts of tires and rimms and keep going back to wide set.

Many pullers use wider rims, as stated earlier it gives you a wider footprint. Therefore giving you more rubber on the ground, helping gain traction.

It will give you a wider footprint. Don't worry about the sidewall as long as it blows out on the rim. We run a set of 15.5 on 16 inch rims.

Running a tire on a rim of the same width may give you a little more grip, but running a tire on a rim wider than the tire itself is bound to eventually damage the sidewalls.

I have a set of 15.5's on 16 inch rims that have been on them for 30 plus years and no problems.
