what do i have to do to get more power out of a m

I have a farmall m that has been the community parts tractor for many years so i figure it would make a pretty good puller but i was wondering what i could do to boost power any ideas welcome thanks eric

What classes, weights and so forth? What rules? You haven't pulled it yet and you already need more power? I think I'd put it on the track a few times and see what it does before dumping any amount of money in getting more horsepower out of it. And I'd darn sure be looking at rule books for wherever I planned on pulling before turning a wrench on it. Just some thoughts...

What you have to do is throw the M away and get a stock Case 830 gas.

A Deere G is a darn good tractor, but dollar for dollar, a Farmall M is one of the best pullers. The interchangeability with 450 parts and availability of M&W and other aftermarket parts makes it a fun and less expensive build. The horsepower per cubic inch and gear/speed choices are much better than a Deere. Stick with your M. Besides, if we are honest, a John Deere A is the industry competitior of the M even if the G matched it's horsepower. Minneapolis Moline U-series is the only real threat to the Farmall M. They can build very inexpensively. But hey, I bleed yellow. Oliver 88 can give the M or U a run for their money too.

I love the green machines but I know that the M is very capable of putting out more horses any day than a G. I see them out pulling the John Deeres all day long all over the country, stock or built. So to tell someone to trade there M for G is just simply noncense.

In my dreams I bleed Green, but in reality I bleed Red.

can you put in a SM-450 block? put in the 281 kit and go low gear pulling, just depends on how much money you want to spend. You can do alot for $3000 and make one heck of a good pulling engine. Chad

How much money you want to spend on it? I have an uncle that pulled the sleeves, bored the hole larger and uses oversize pistons with out sleeves. he also lengthened the rods and built a spacer about 3 inches thick to keep the rods from hitting the pan at the bottom of the stroke. He's lucky though, he has his own machine shop so he can do all the work himself. I think he still has quite a bit in it though.
