I have modified an MT for pulling and am not getting the performance I hoped. Have built up the pistons to get about 180psi. Put in stronger valve springs and electronic ignition. Motor at times seems to be fighting itself, but it runs great from idle to full throttle standing still. It just has no lugging power when hooked up to the stone boat and gets beat by a stock MT. Tried changing timing and valve settings with no luck. The pistons are built up with no firing groove - would that matter? Using high test or better gas. Tried a new bigger manifold and 420 carb with no difference.

I would put the tractor on a dyno and make carb. and timing adjustments to get the most output out of it horsepower wise. That is what I did when I had trouble getting my JD-G to run right. Just an idea.
