I've noticed, at pulls, the gas tractors rpm's are checked after each pull by using the timing gun. What do they do to check diesel engines since they do not have spark plug wires to hook onto? I noticed the diesel's just pull away after the pull without getting checked. Mike

They also can use a pulse tack.It clamps on a injecter line and every time the injecter fires it pulsates and it triggers the sensor to the electronic tack.

Our club checks rpms with a infra-red tachometer. The reading is taken off the belt drive on JDs and crankshaft pulley on all other tractors.
