The Farmall M I'm pulling now is pretty much stripped down for weight, no pto, hyd pump/lines, lightweight seat/pedestal, modified hitch, wheelie bars that were maybe made a little too heavy. I already have weld on 9 bolt hubs with pressed steel rims with pressed rims/small tires up front. It weights 4800# now with me on it and I need to lose 225# to make it to the next smaller weight class. I'm using 18.4X38 cut tires. I'm wondering how much weight I'll save by going tubeless, how much weight savings for aluminum rims instead of the 9 bolt pressed steel I have now. How much weight savings for a aluminum deck plate on top of rear end? I plan to cut off the extra axles sticking out from the weld on hub area, but don't think that it will make more than 20-30# differance. I don't want to go to smaller tires. I could use a regular battery for starting tractor and then use a small motorcycle battery for actually running engine, not sure how that would work as I have an electric fan to run also.

Thanks for the infromation and the tolerance for the bad spelling.

Can you get rid of the lower bolster and replace it with a liteweight front end?? Also, you can cut some cast out of the upper bolster under the radiator and still have strength but lighter,, The gas tank/steering support can be made of lighter materials, aluminum steering shafts, Fiberglass gas tank,,, Aluminum frame rails,,,Aluminum transmission top plate,,, The list is endless, just dpends on how much you wanna spend, and how hard you wanna work, but, seen a Super M at 4200 with a driver,,, could not even tell!!! I think that the 18.4X38 tires are two wide for the 4500 class, they will float on top of the track. Switch to a good 14.9X38 with the correct size rims. You would loose close to the 225 pounds plus have a better biting tire.

I have a 400+Hp Chrysler V-8 in tractor now. Pulling in 2nd gear, 6000RPM, I've been clocked at 14mph in the 5500# and 12mph in the 6500#. I'm REALLY curious to see what 3rd gear would be like in the 4500# open class.

If you are using an electronic ignition and/or hot coil, be careful if you go switching batteries as from what I understand a buddy saw a fellow take out a battery once he got he started up, to lighten the load, and burt up his $400.00 coil. I'm not sure it would hurt if you reconnect immediately, however I would look into this before just to make sure. Good Luck.

The aluminum wheels will be around 70lbs each, your tubes could be as lite as 25lbs each and as heavy as 35lbs.
