I just picked up a 41 farmall h. I am starting to get into tractor pulls and I was wondering what I can all do to get more power out of my farmall. It needs a rebuild so I am going to spend some cash and do it right. Where is a good source to get the parts like high compression pistons and such? Any other tricks would be appreciated! My friend just picked up a JD A with a powerblock and I need to be able to eat him up in the tractor pulls next year! Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated!

There was at one time a Low-Low gear H that won a few pulls in farm stock with larger tractors in class.Also was there when RM Mobley won many pulls.The Farmall H can surprise a few people.

If you don't mind spending some,you could look around for a 350 engine already running or loose and put on some propane goodies and there you go.I have seen several like this that are impressive in the non cut tire class.

How many bigger tractors you want to out pull will depend directly on the amount of money ( in hundreds) that you are willing to spend. As it stands now,you don't stand a chance against that "A". $1200-$1600 just might get you there,but that is ONLY if he stays where he is,which he probably won't! If you have 4 to 5 thousand bucks to blow on an "H" then you will be able to print a list a mile long of all the JD's you beat,just like the post below. You will be broke, but you will be proud and have a ton of plastic on your mantle at home. Unless you have a money pit,don't let it all go to your head. Someones "pit" will always be deeper than yours! Just have fun and attend the "boring" stock pulls like posted below.

The sky is the limit in concern to modifications. You could port and polish the head and put bigger valves in it. I know 1066 valves will fit in a M, I am not sure what will fit in a H. High Altitude fire crater pistons are about the best bet piston. You can find them on the internet, just look a little bit. Also you need to put a bigger carb on because of the extra fuel and air you can pull with the ported head. You can also modify the governor. A stroker kit can be machined, but make sure whoever you get to do it has a lot of experience. Stroker kits are very expensive, but you can get serious cubes. Also you can put a thinner sleeve in to make the bore the same size as a 350. There is so much more too. Have fun.

I have a 1939H-Farmall that I pull in antique and open classes and beat JDs A,60,G also beats Farmalls H,M 450,460,MM U and the list can go on,so when they tell you it can not happen tell them you was told by another H owner it happens all the time,I like going to pulls where you can hook unlimited times and have fun,I have hooked my tractor in 10 classes at a single pull and left with 6-1st,3-2nd,1-3rd in on day,not bad for a day of fun and one of those classes was King of the Hill winner take all money class.

If you want to come to our pull keep them as completly stock as possible, anything that is not stock enough to be able to hook to a plow and go out and work will not pull. and no weight bracket will be permitted with only 2 wheel weights per wheel mounted as per factory or fluid but not both, no other weights allowed, most clubs allow a 10% over on HP but that is all and stock engine RPM. Anything that is not meeting these requirements are geting the boot

Sounds more like a show not a pull. Do you get anybody that will show up to these events? Nothing wrong with it if that's what takes the slack out of your chain. Where we pull its for competition not show and bringing something to a pull as you described would only be used to pull the broken ones from the track. Beside that nobody would show up if we had rules like that. What part of the country do you run classes as you described? P1

Western Ohio and we usualy have had approximatly 100 hooks for the day and only one hook per tractor and if a second tractor is to be pulled per driver it must be in a different class and pull is run with no scales and the way we like it, just by plow class and no money involved with just the first place and second place a small trophy and third a small plack. I would not turn around to watch those modifieds as I hate them. And I work our pull every year. We always have a good sized croud watching.

Hate is a strong word. I can't imagine any one that I know saying that they would HATE to watch your style of pulling. But I can imagine thinking that I would probably not like you as a person.

The Farmal H and the A john Deere would not be pulling against each other as Farmall is 2 plow tractor and John Deere is 3 plow tractor

I know his tractor is bigger but the class I pull in is the classic 4500 pound class and It usually has about twice the entrants as the 5500 pound class! Like Tim Taylor says "More power!!"
