I put an alternater on my 1955 John Deere 70. My question is what is the proper way to wire it . the alt. has an internal regulator. And i looking for the correct way so that it charges my battery. i would appreciate any comment or suggestions. thanks for your time.

On the JD board Deere Hunter has added wiring diagrams to his website. The link below is for the 70 gas as it was originally wired

I've never wired a 70 but the most basic way that I have found with Deere and Farmall. I use a Borg/Warner univeral switch.

10 gauge wire from the starter post to the ammeter (this is the only wire on the discharge post)
10 gauge wire from the other post on the ammeter to the alternator post. If the alternator is self energizing, then you only need this wire. If it isn't you will need to run a second wire from the alternator plug to an accessory post on the switch.
14 gauge wire from this same post on the ammeter to the switch (bat post)
14 gauge wire from this same post on the ammeter to the switch for the lights
14 gauge wire from the ign post on the switch to the (+) post on the coil
14 gauge wire from the (-) post on the coil to the points.

If you ever add an electronic ignition like a pertronix, the coil is wired a little different because there are two wires coming from the distributor.

Most of my switchs don't have the Acc post.. so I install a diode in the exciter wire to the Alt.. (that is the wire coming from the switch)(Radio Shack.. cheap.) This keeps the current from backfeeding and keeping the coil hot when the key is turned off. We also have been buying the one wire alt's.. found someone to build them for under $50... Usually about $25 for the other style, at most auto parts stores.(get one for an early 80's Chevy truck.) Good Luck
