A few rookie questions. Do you know of a source for longer rods rather than changing the crank in my M for more compression ? Is this even possible ? Are there longer rods in another engine that would fit ? THANKS !

4.250 pistons. The rods are original. (1939 M)I suppose they are small pin type. Guess I'll find out this winter. Thanks again for the info !

No, If you have a M rod, and a pin that is smaller, like the 450,, you can offset the wrist pin higher on the rods, and that picks up alot of low end torque. Did you say a while back,, you had 4.25 bore pistons? are they the big pin, or small pin? Hope for the small pin,,, then, you got an option,,, Chad

Wont that bring the piston up into the combustion chamber?

Another thing to consider is quench, or the relationship of the top of the piston and the non-chamber portion of the head. It is best to reduce the quench area as much as possible. You can do this with longer rods, stroking, decking the block, thinner head gaskets, etc. I was running .027 on a Farmall H I had and it ran very well.

I am sure some of the more experianced builders can elaborate.

Yep. if you have a domed piston, you can machine around the dome, the difference you raised the piston on the rod, that gives you a longer rod, and a higher compression piston. Chad

YOU CAN MACHINE AROUND THE DOME, HACK IT AND WACK IT, BUT I MUST ASK ?
DID YOU CUT THE ROD AND MAKE IT LONGER?
DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO THE PISTON, EVEN PUT A HOLE IN IT, BUT YOU DIDN'T LENGTHEN THE ROD !

PLEASE TELL ME YOUR (NEW) ROD TO CRANKSHAFT RATIO !
ALOT OF WORK FOR 3 HP !
ONCE AGAIN YOU NEVER CHANGED THE RATIO, JUST INCREASE COMPRESSION, HOPEFULLY IT GETS BY THE HEAD !

Yes I did, but did not cut it and weld it back together,, its amazing where a few thoudsandths in the right place made all the difference in the world. Bud, you know darn well what we do to the rods. Anytime you wanna see the ol green M on the dyno,,, come on down. Then, Ill tell you what I did. More compression, just a tad longer rod from center to center,,, the results are,,,,, well, come on down n see for yourself my freind! Close up view that the others in the club wont let you see!!! oh yes,, the rod center to center is longer VS stock. Cant wait to see you on the track,, Ill be waving to you while Im at Mcdonalds spending the prize money. HAHAHAHA! 3hp,,,, HAHAHA! thats a laugh. see ya! Chad

Probably leave it sit in the barn. Just got my Drag car running, so Im looking to do something different. I dont know what will happen at the banquet, other than things getting worse than they already are. Im not going, nor support who's next in line on their so called throne. I am not going to pull tractors with fellow pullers that make the rules, then turn around and break em. Chad

Only takes a few good men to make a pulling board work well. Would be a good idea to attend the banquet this year. Has to be some type of rules on big stroker cranks and cutt-tires, and pulling second gear in farm stock !
Only took (1) guy to create a cash race in that division, but I'm pretty sure he can be eliminated to !
Hey is (two-gear) actually going to accept a first place trophy at the banquet.
That's enough rite thair not to ever quite pulling.
I'd heckle that guy every time he came to the track, I'll make sure the next time I see him, He getts (4) cents worth !
Cheer up, things will get alot better !

LMAO. Gone racing. Naa,, this is something Ive wanted to get back into,, My cousin has an old dodge that needs ran hard, and no place to turn it loose. I just hope what I got can keep up. As far as the mods in farm stock,,,, NO COMMENT!! Strokers are the least of my concern. Lets get one thing straight,,, aint no such thing as a stock pulling tractor. What are we doing? pulling a plow, or a pulling sled? The plow sound more exciting at this time. Im not upset,, HAHAHA! Just tired of listening to BS solutions that wont help diddly squat. JMHO.
