is there any differance in a 400 camshaft then rather using a farmall m cam thanks

It has more lift and duration VS the stock M cam. more low end power,, CHad

Do you happen to know the specs on those cams? I am pondering upgrades for my turbo engine and I am curious what the baseline is. Cam and head/valve work are the next logical steps.

yep I do! Ill email em to you tomorrow night. Something like what you got,,, a kinda,, stock 450 head would be the best bang for the buck. Bigger ports in both exhaust and intake, I belive that the chamber with the slant on the intake side help air in, and air out cause it has more room to move, and it ramps the exhaust gasses right towards the valves, creates turbulence. But, if the ports were bigger, you may lose some boost pressure, but you may be able to fix that with the wastegate on the turbo? But would flow more air,, On the other hand, if you got like a 8060 head,,, porting it would be good, and not affect your compression pressures under boost, cause the chamber is bigger than the 450 heads,, so, maybe just maybe an old kerosine head might do you justice, big chambers, and ported to flow, and then fine tune the turbo to make up the difference,, its kinda a toss up,, air flow is what your after,,, Chad

Yeah, I am not crazy about upping compression with the 450 head. The lower the compression the better a boosted gas engine works. I was actually planning bigger valves, a bowl port job, valve unshrouding, and general port cleanup. I have got to get a girdle and flywheel on the ole girl before I do too much since I cant crank up the RPM yet anyway. You have a good source for an affordable prefabbed girdle?

I would belive you would be OK without a girdle. you would be in the area of HP that a good size stroker could produce. Unless you intend on running very high rpm,, even at 2500,, I cant see it breaking the webbing inside the block. Yep, big valves, ported, and a low compression head,, the turbo decides how much compression it makes, so,, the bigger the better for chamber size. I would think it would be better with more volume to fill, rather than start with a high compression setup to begin with. Do you run any kind of cooler for the engine oil? Would not take much to build,, probably make one out of a tranny cooler, tapped into the plugs in the side of the block,, Back to the girdle,, that flywheel is what will break stuff,, you might pick up quite a bit if you got rid of it and went with a lighter setup, less turbo lag, and would be alot more responcive when you wind it up. takes alot of stress off the rear main bearing too. those flywheels are heavy!! probably lose 60lbs if replaced with a custom setup. Id junk the stock oil pump, replace with a belt driven setup, it may help to keep the oil cooler, and not have to worry bout it failing, also at higher rpms,, it takes the stress off the camshaft, so you might pick up some torque, (unless the belt driven pump taks more power to turn) I dont see that as a problem though,, any kind of parts that relive friction will hep ya,, roller rockers, too bad there is not a roller cam setup,, that would kick A$$!! Ever see the MSD timing control?? A must have if you cant dyno it, you can dial it in while your driving it,, if it helps, you probably would feel it for sure! What you got there has unlimited potential!! Toys, toys and more toys makes it safer, and make power, but sure is fun to look at in the pits! Ill get ya those cam specs, Id get ahold of "the real confederate" on here,, he would have something better in mind than a 450 cam,,, JMHO,, ChadS
