On a 51 JD B with 11.2-38 tires, how low can I set the tire pressure without having valve stem problems?

How wide are your rims?, How many ply tire? What weight class? , How long is the chain on sled? How tall are the bars on your tire.? In Illinois ITPA chain is suppose to be 48in.Always check because lazy sled guy might slip a 52 or 54in. Most of them will usually tell you if ask.Just keep tape in your pocket.Cut tires? Wider rims require more air.Good check list.

On the B is the centers cast or tin? I believe that the 52 Bs came with cast on back.On the 11.2-38s run 11psi on a hard track an about 5 1/2 to 6 psi on a soft track. When you pull on a soft track when you spin out look at the holes you made and make sure that they are flat across. If they have an hill in the center of them your tires buckled up and you need some more air in them.I have seen alot of 51Bs beat all kinds of tractors in frist gear when the weight is right.About what weight classes are you going to pull.Let us know more about your B so we can help you.

My 51 has the cast wheels, weights about 4450. If I set the tires at 5 1/2 to 6 psi, is there danger that the rim will slip? Thanks

If your tires are new on there but if they have been on for sometime it,s hard to slip them. I always have a mark on the rim and tire to keep an eye on them. I would start at 8 psi on a soft track with one 50 pound on front.Keep your eye on the right tire because jds pull ten percent more on this side then the other.

Hi Phil, opinions on the tire pressure issue is like some of our body parts...we all have one. A sage ol' puller once told me that as rule of thumb put 2 lbs of pressure for every 1,000 lbs of tractor weight and adjust from there based on track conditions. It works pretty good for me. Is it going to be about 85 out there tomorrow?

Steve

They are Titan 4 ply Nylon. They are probably only a few years old, they looked brand new when I bought the tractor.
