I have a 375hp caddi in our M. It pulls very well in 5000# to 6500# class in 3rd gear,& up to 7500# in 2nd on a dry track . Wet clay or mud brings it to 1st gear (or the stock clutch slips) Once the lightest modified class was 9500# (dry track). I weighed 8400# and pulled it in 2nd!! I was way out classed but still pulled 183 feet. I was really scared something was going to break. If It Breaks We're Broke!! the tractor seems to be quite rugged but the stock clutch is NOT the way to go. This winter the M may see a high performance clutch Mark

It will be fine so long as you are not pulling heavy weight. I know of an M with a ~500HP V8. The tractor trans and diff will hold up fine unless you try to pull heavy.

I'd like to hear more about the V-8... I have a 400+hp V-8 in a M now, works great as long as you don't weight it down above 7000# and pull in 1st gear.

The M I am speaking of is setup with a 408cid small ford with Roush heads and all the other go fast goodies. The tractor has a tube frame in place of the old frame rails and has been reworked with a roll cage and everything. He has 20.8x34 rear tires and pulls the sled around 20MPH from what I understand. There is actually several V8's around here, but that is the only Farmall. Some run a 3spd transmission in front of the tractor transmission, but the farmall is direct and he pulls in 4th gear at 6K RPM. Main problem to date I know of is the clutch not staying in it.
