JD 60 Head on a JD A

I was told recently that a JD 60 head would fit on a JD A. Is that any A or does it have to be one of the late A's with head casting #4226?

yes, a 60 head will bolt right on to ANY styled A motor. a little grindin on head and frame rails on cast frames...and a notching out for pressed steel frames. they feed ok, look at a JD 60 hp compared to a late A, same block back, different head up assembly..... and o ya....an A with a 620 engine bolted in it will run ya about 50hp.

Thanks for the response - will the 60 head also fit a #2 JD powerblock? I assume the only difference is the size of the bore.

I recall someone mentioning once that there are clearance problems between the frame and 60 head on an A with a pressed steel frame, but I don't know from personal experince as I have never tried it. I do know it will bolt onto the block with no problems. An early styled A will work with no problems. Maybe someone will chime in as far as the late A frame clearance issue that knows for sure. Mike

A 60 head will bolt to any styled A, SN: 488000+
