I am trying to decide what tires to run on my '46 W-9. My club rules allow me to run 16.9x34s on 17in rim and pull 6500 and up or 18.4x34s on 18in rim and pull 7500 on up. So what would you go with? Also any general info on pulling these beasts will be appreciated. Thanks

I to also pull a stock 45 W-9 and a stroked W-9.
On the stock 9 I have 16.9 x 34 tires and pull 6500 in 1st or 2nd on a loose track. I always use 1st in the 7500 and 8500 classes. If you have stock HP I would go with the 16.9 x 34. On my stroked W-9 I run 18.4 x 34 on a 18 inch rim I pull 6500-8500 in 4th gear.
You need the power to turn the bigger tires

Thanks, I think I am just going to have the rims widened to 17" and run whatever size I find first. How about performance, I searched and found somthing about the lower half of a 806 carb. Do you need to do anything to make it work? Also about a engine build using GMC 478 V6 pistons. Whats all involved in this, as it soulds like something I would like to do? Thanks again.

I pull my 45 W-9 in the 5500, 6000, and 6500 # classes. All these classes in NATPA DIV II allow a maximum of 16.9 x 34 tires on 15" wheels. When I bump into the 7500# class and try and compete against the 18.4 x 34 or 38 tires I don't have a lot of luck because of the foot print I loose. If you're going to pull 7500# and above your going to need more than stock horsepower on the tight tracks. Good Luck The old wheatland tractors are fun to watch.
