Oliver 88 Upgrades

Your class and rules will determine what you should do. If it's stock RPM + XX%, then it's a cubic inch game. If it's open RPM, then you have more options with lower cubes. I just flowed a 1650 gas head today with 1.625 intake valves. I didn't do any work on this, just flowed it for another customer. If you're looking for a similar set-up, I also have a stock head that needs to be gone through. Both are for sale, but need add'l work. Best you can get on any of these 9 port heads (everything but the S99/GK195U) is 150 cfm at 28" H2O with a 1.625" valve at 0.500 lift...that's breaking into water. For reference, and this shows you how poor these heads are, the GK195U head flows 190cfm stock. The advantage of the 1650 is the small chamber. The 1650 chamber is similar to the 12 port gas heads, around 80-85cc vs. 100cc for the 88. Just bolting on this head will get you another point of compression and allow you to pull out a couple degrees of spark. Also pay attention to manifolds---the stock Oliver manifolds will kill 20 to 30% of the flow of the head at all lifts. When it comes to airflow, make sure you look at the whole package. Good luck.
