Greetings - Want to buy and build a 5000 - 7000 # pulling tractor - need something fairly low to the ground as I have had knee replacements and other leg issues - looking at like a Deer model R or a Case LA - or?? Need input from the experienced masses - other models and makes good to start out with?? I have been building and racing gas engines in stock cars and other forms for over 30 years but also like diesels very much - input on engine choice as well is appreciated? I currently have a 1949 JD B and a 1980 JD 2640 - the 2640 might make a good puller 70hp Diesel w/o a turbo - but it is my horse manure and arena grooming tractor so I don't really want to use it, but I could replace it if it makes sense. I am more inclined to go with JD since I already have 2 and there aren't very many being used in my area for pulling - could be a good reason for this ... looking for any and all input for a newbie to the sport - Not looking to spend a ton o' cash - want to have some local fun!! Thanks - and feel free to email me if you like - WildBill - Great NW - Washington State

For 5000-7000 lb range, a Farmall 460 is an inexpensive winner. Tough competitive puller stock and easy to soup up a bit.

1. How fast do you want to go?
2. How much do you want to spend?
3. Is the tractor being converted to a strict puller, or are you still looking to use on the farm/parade?
