What are some of the best way's to get power out of an 88 that already has 3 7/8 m&w piston's in it. I don't want to spend over 700 dollars.

take your 3 7/8 m&w sleeves and have them bored to 4 inch then get some 4010 gas piston from the local John Deere Dealer for cheap out of an over haul. Then if you can have them machined down to fit in the head run about 14.5:1 compression

Are you running a ported head and matched intake runners? if not your missing the boat on more cheap power, and the 1650 intake/exhaust will bolt right on, try some other carbs , bigger isnt always better unless its cut back some, but gotta get the air in that motor, use electronic ignition, it wont gain you any power , but holds the tuning you do alot better, this should help some for cheap.

Amen to that. On my 77, I ported the head and matched it to the intake runners and it got me 7 horse even on the dyno.
