Went to tractor pull at the local 4-H fair Friday evening. Supposed to start at 6:30 and had sled electronics trouble and did not get going until 7:30. Watched until 11:30 and they were still running the same 12 to 15 tractors and were only up to 7000 pounds or so.

Questions I have:
1. I have seldom seen the big tractors pull as it gets so late (1 or 2 in the morning)! Why don't they start with the big ones sometime or flip a coin and see which starts first? Need some variety, please.

2. Could they add more weight (believe it was 500 pounds per different class) to cut down the class numbers? Got tired of the same tractors.
It was interesting to see what more weight would do, and some did better, but enough already.

Enough on the rant.

Just be lucky they go "high to low" or "low to high" - I got this off one of the North Carolina Clubs page. Great variety if you are a spectator, but in reality, how many spectators are there besides the family? Doesn"t matter what you pull, you are there all day long.

Have you ever seen ALL the tractors that pull in one pull there before the pull starts? A lot of the big pullers would miss out because they were too late. The lighter tractors dig shalower holes. But at the Polk County WI pull they do the modifieds sooner because they do the pull at night and there are campers on the Fair Grounds. Just my 2 cents.

If you would all look at a previous post where's the the blade and the roller? An 18.4x38 tire will dig a hole regardless of the weight, if it spins out, unless you have a noncut tire class. If you don't agree with me just take a look at Outlaws, NTPA, or go to Louisville they all mix them up.

The reason the BIG pullers show up later is because we know we will be the last ones to hook.

We reverse the order every other pull, most people hate it. The guys that actually pull have to take their weights off the tractor as they pull, and then put them back on to go home. The lighter pullers have to dodge the massive holes the heavier tractors make.

Our club runs two sleds. Our big sled is self powered, and our small sled requires a pull back tractor. We start with 3000# on the small one in 500# increments. The big sled starts with 6000# and goes in 1000# increments. The sleds run side by side in an alternating fashion. We get bored with seeing the same tractors pull over and over so each tractor is only allowed to pull in 2 classes. Invest in less weight and buy more tractors. It makes for a good length show with v-8 modifieds, hot farm, and trucks afterwards.

If you want to thin out the lighter classes, just let the heavy tractors pull first and see how many pullers you lose! I pull from 9000 to 12000 and always seem to wait around 5 to 8 hours to pull while the 3000 lb tractors have been home for lunch, mowed the lawn and have had several beers before I pull. Maybe 2 pulls a year we get to go first and the little guys whine about how bad the track is by the time they pull. No kidding! Don't you think it's a mine field when we pull after 150 or more tractors have made their runs?

It sure is easier to start heavy and throw off weights as you go rather than add weights as you go. The whole thing is just like being married: the smaller species will always get their way while the larger species patiently suffer! I guess when you can barely count forwards, it's next to impossible to keep up while counting backwards.

I would not argue with the merit of your comments. My computer is open; as in where the "little species" reads anything she wants. Being a happy married woose, as compared to being a man among men, I sure hope you got a delete button on your computer. If not, it has been a pleasure, we will miss you. :) best Yeoman

I'd rather pull my 8n before there are hills on the track than pull my 98 later. I'm pulling light and heavy when I bring them both. Not sure what the counting backwards and forwards deal means, maybe I'm stupid.

Why so much concern of the condition of the track,ie no blade or roller? After 50 or 60 hooks the track is the track. The point was why light tractors usually pull first.Reason,That's the way it was and change is BAD.

I have spent a many late nights waiting to pull while the lighter pullers are enjoying the rest of the pull or are already home eating supper. We had one here local where the heavy went first and the lighter went last and you should have heard all the griping.

Ahh but remember while they lighter guys are sitting enjoying the end of the pull you have been sitting watching the first of it. I was at the heavy to light pull as well and thoughtit was gonna be cool th throw weight off instead of on but at the end of the day and I was tired I had to hang all that weight right back on my tractor to go home... 6 of one half a dozen of the other.

Awww but Jeff seeing the same little E Gleaners pass through 5 times from 3500 up does get a little monotnous.Occasionally where we are at they could have a full days pull with the battle of the Orange.Moving them weights keeps your discs in line don't it?Ha ha.Later Jeff.

They don't always. Sometimes they'll run heavy to light, so that they're not always waiting around all day to pull.

another reason is that a lot of times the heavier class tear up the track for lighter classes. There are times, depending on the track, that by running the heavy classes first can make the track better.

Start with the small tractors and the sled's weight box is basically empty at some places so they can pull it. Just as the tractors are adding more weight, they will do it for the sled too. It can get old watching the same tractors if they don't have a hook limit.

My club has pulled from light to heavy on Saturdays and on Sunday afternoon we usually have a play day. On Sunday we start heavy and unload the sled so it can be moved.

Lots of people do it different ways.
