I was told that a stock carb on a super m would hang in there longer on the lugging side than a carb thats all hopped up because the extra gas would kill it out faster . I did not know much difference with mine .so would a guy be better off with a stock carb on it ?

Try a #27 or a #29 venturi. it should have a 27 already stock,,, if the venturi is too small, it will run richer. If your running race fuel,, go back to a good 93 pump gas, race fuel in a stocker will make em fall on their face on the low side. Id guess that its too hard to ignite. You will find the number of the venturi on the bottom inside lip of the venturi,,, too much plug gap can hurt low end torque too,,, Chad

AS long as the carb meters and mixes the correct amount of fuel with the air flowing through it the engine will run fine. If the venturi doesn't have enough airflow through it to maintain a low pressure area to "lift" the fuel from the fuel bowl through the jets. Then yes the engine will bog but on the lack of fuel. If the throttle is closed a bit there maybe enough manifold vacuum to assist lifting the fuel. So too large a carb on a too small engine running too slow will not make the HP or torque a proper sized carb will. So going for the 1-2 extra HP screaming at redline with that larger or bored out carb. May well cost torque or even the ability to run when the engine is lugged down. Best way to find out is run several carbs with her on the dyno.

I was working on it and I cant get enough air to it . it is to rich of a mix I am going to put my stock carb back on . yes I agree its not worth wrecking the tractor for 1 or 2 more horse . I have a strong engine but it kills me on the low side due to a too rich of a mix and I cant get it any leaner . thanks for the reply

I'm wondering if your larger carb has a metering problem that a cleanup and a few new parts/gaskets may solve? It shouldn't completely fall on it's face like that even if too large. What make and model is everything?

the tractor is a super mta with a fresh overhaul 2 years ago. when we did the engine the carb was gone thru too. it runs strong 60 hp with a LP manifold . I guess a guy can never get enough HP . I had other ones pull past me with a stock carb on . maybe if I try a stock carb and make the venturi larger for more air flow .

Before opening the venturi. Has the airfilter been changed to somehting low restriction? And has the intake system been cleaned up? That is to grind down and smooth any mismatched connections, joints, port to manifold surfaces etc? Choke blade smoothing etc too. Thats extra HP and torque with no loss at lower rpms.
