is the valve adjustment on a john deere g with roller rockers the same as stock

Start out with what your cam card says. Put the tractor on a dyno, and then play with the lash. I would start with loosening the exh. lash some. Im guessing the tractor and dyno will like it.

the cam is out of a 720 john deere.

In that case I would start with the Deere spec. for a 720 and work from there. Valve lash is a tuning tool. You are going to have to dyno the thing and see what it likes best, and that is different for every tractor.

When adjusting and dyno tuning, only change either the exhaust or the intake at a time. If you do both at the same time, you are introducing too many variables into the equation and will learn nothing.
