Please help me positivly ID a power block in a styled B thats a running tractor. I suspect someone has taken a grinder to the lettering cast into it. This other wise stock looking b sees to have the power of a late A or maybe a G. Its a real power house "stock" tractor. Im justa wunderin.??? Thanks for the help!

A Tractor Supply model B Power-Block does not look like any stock B block on the outside. If you are familiar what a model 50 stock block looks like the B Power-Block will resemble it. They both have the larger bulging water jacket just behind the head. The Power-Block was painted new Yellow, scratch off the green to see if it yellow underneath. Power-Blocks never had compression releases, if your block has them or plugs underneath for them it is not a Power-Block. To grind the Power-Block markings off the B model block it would be difficult without leaving allot of evidence as the room on top to do that would be limited. DW

Look on the bottom of the block for the JD casting number, should start with B. If it's there, it's definately a Deere block. If no casting number, that lends itself to your theory about the power block lettering being ground off. Mike

No plugs in the bottom of the block to put in petcocks in any power blocks

If you run out of other options, you can take a sparkplug out and shine a flashlight in the hole. Look and see if the bore is straight all the way up or if it necks down at the top.
