I have a 1951 U moline and it weighs in at 5420 with no one on it. I need some help with some ideas on how to make it lighter. I'm wanting to put it in the 5000# class.

Loose the fenders,(block your seat post so it can't swing into the tires!), pto, hydraulic, pressed rims, lights, anything that isn't nescesary.

Try to lose it off the front. My U doesn't like anything under 6000. Too nose heavy.

Thanks for the suggestions, but it has pressed steel rims already on it. No pto, fenders, ect. I was thinking about putting a uts front end on it, I don't know what the weight difference would be.

Hello,
If your U has pressed steel wheels and weighs 5420, you have to have something else on your tractor your not telling us, maybe fluid in tires, wheel weights in front wheels? maybe a loader on the front?.

My U weighs 5320 with cast iron wheels, weight brackets and wheelie bars, no pto, no hydralics, no fenders.

If you put the standard front under it it should be heavier then the narrow front?

Sorry buts thats all i can help you
Shawn

Thanks, no fluid or wheel weights. The tractor has 800 jugs and heads. If you would like you could look at the tractor in the Jan. Hook Magizine or pull it up on there web site. It is on page 23. It has 18.4-38 tires and 18 inch rims. Everyone that has looked at the tractor can't believe that it weighs so much. One person has even told us that moline came out with a U one year that had a thicker rear end casting. I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Well i looked at the picture, sharp looking tractor, i dont have a clue why your tractor is so heavy, i do know U rear ends are heavier then UB rear ends, my tractor is a 52 and it had the live power, you can take that out and turn the gear around on the 2 shafts and weld it up solid, that will loose about 100 pounds, are those 18.4 X 38's they will ad up the weight also but i dont know how much.
thats my only clue good luck
Shawn

I think that UTS axles & axle housings are lighter but you'll have to change hubs.

Yes they are 18.4-38 tires. What I'm wanting to do is us a uts front end and then make my own axle out of aluminum. Do you know of a front 5 bolt hub that would fit on the factory moline spindle? THANKS
