I have a JD 60 with 18.4x38, a powerblock, dennys coil, dennys dist., roberts carb, and a cam shaft from tripple G. My club makes me start at 7500 becuase of the 18.4's. I was wondering if it is worth it to put on a set of top cut 15.5 x 38 and running it as light as i can get it. That brings me to my next question, how light can i get this beast? I already have rear end cover with just a pto, and have located a set of hubs to convert over to 9 bolt. I am looking for a non rolamatic front end if it will bolt right up to it. Will one of a early styled A work? Is it posible to hit 4500 without spending alot of money on leightning stuff and is it worth it or am i better off buying more weights and running her up in heavy classes? I know she will pull 10500 and unlimited with no problem.

Drew is right. The heavier you go with a 60 the better off you will be. You will get along much better with the large tires and the creeper low gear. Get it heavy and glue it down and they will pull forever. If you go lighter you need to go faster and with your setup you are on the borderline of being able to do that consistently. I have a 60 that I pull and it has a few more "goodies" than yours does and it sometimes struggles to keep up in the 5500 and 6500 classes. I now pull a 70 with more in it and it does much better. It would cost a small fortune to make 4500 with a 60, and a magnet isnt going to stick to any of it. The early styled front end will not bolt to a 60. If you went with the light tires, 5500 wouldnt be too hard to make. In my opinion, unless you can get enough power to get into 2nd gear, I would just pull heavy.

I agree. The two cylinders are best with good for/aft balance, biting tires, loaded down and pulling in creeper gear. Really ticks the guys off with 2X or 3X the HP and have a stock 40HP JD place in the top three with them.
