Ijust got my 448 cid U running, thank god..But im havin dist problems.I loosen it up and manually advance it till it starts to labor and then back it off till it just starts to run really smooth on idle(550rpm)Ill take it up in rpms just fine (1500)and back down to idle where it starts to run like its advanced too much(labor)I shut it right down and poped the cap and took the rotor and turned it back aprox 3/8 inch backwards.NOT GOOD...Then i turned it against the springs and let it loose so it would snap back but it wouldnt return all the way, still had to turn it back the 3/8. There is NO binding, just acts like thers no spring action. What to do?

UH, Take it apart and look at the springs and wieghts they may be rusted broke springs etc....All that stuff is under the points plate. While you got it apart make sure the shaft to distributor bushing doesn't have to much slop.
