There is a class locally with 5 V8 tractors in it. They are a variety from oliver super 88 to massey 44 to Farmall M. The Masseys do have a weak gear that seems to go with the V8, but I dont rememeber which one.

They limit the RPM to 6k and the engine has to be a small block. Other than that, it is open to the inventor. The tractors are really fun to watch.

I have a Massey Harris model 55 with a 454 chevy in it. I would say that a MH 44 or 55 would be ideal for a V8 install. The original bellhousings are attached to the transmission via a chain coupler. I used a lakewood scattershield bellhousing which is made of steel vs cast. This was perfect because I could weld it to adapt to my stock tractor clutch fork, linkage, and input shaft bearing housing. I have an in progress picture in the photo gallery. Type Massey Harris in the photo search. It should come up as 1952 Massey Harris 55 V8. The tractor is now complete and I have pulled with it with great success the previous two weekends. Good Luck!

We are installing a Chrysler 440 in a M right now. We had a steel flywheel made as the origional IH cast one is unsafe above 2500-3000RPM. We had to have a thicker flywheel made as the stock 440 flywheel was wrong to use the M ring gear/starter, We are using a clutch housing from a Ford diesel truck and a button clutch plate from the M (so the splined shaft to tranny can be used.

We were able to grind out enough of the side rails to be able to keep them in the origional position.

We used the origional adapter plate between the engine and transmission, had the same machinest who did flywheel get all the holes centered/lined up.

We will pick up the tractor today from the painter and will start building engine SOON.

I noticed in a local pull that allowed V-8's in last year's open tractor class will not allow them this year. Scared?????

We had to bore the block, new Kieth Black piston, rings, Comp Cam, Edlebrock single plane intake manifold, Holley 770cfm carb, electronic ingnition, MSD 6AL box, hot coil..... .....

If I had to do this over, the amount of money that this has cost would have gone quite a way towards a "stock appearing" tractor.

We will use the stock tranny. There is a coupling assembly between the throw out bearing and the trannsmission, make sure that there is no play in it. We will probably stay in the lighter classes, I don't think that we dare to have enough weight on to get the tires really hooked up.

I don't have all the parts bought yet, just a couple of small things left, but am over $5000.

I don't anticipate more that 6500 RPMs.

You may want to go to a tractor salvage and just "go shopping"! A lot of tractors are taken there with a bad engine or no engine and they just sit there and end up getting parted or scrapped out. A lot of junkyards have farm tractors in them that have something wrong and were junked out. We have a salvage yard not too far from my house and I have noticed quite a few farm tractors go in and out of that place over the years. You may find a smoking deal on a rolling chassis. Good luck.

I have always wanted to put a V-8 on a farm tractor. I have always held the idea that an M or H Farmall would be the tractor of my choice. Any full frame tractor should work and you can let your imagination run wild with ideas for transmission hookup combinations. I have always wanted to put the 345 cid International engine on the M or H in my dreams. I know I haven't been much help but I love a dreamer and that has been my dream to build and own a V-8 powered antique. Keep dreaming it can come true.

I have a Massey 44 with a 327 in it. Right now it is locked up. I found a chevy 400 and I am getting ready to swap the 327 with the 400.
