I pull an unstyled A that I just removed the mag and installed a delco distributor. The distributor was in good shape, didn't have to re-bushing, just clean and repaint. I removed the points and added the petronics electronic ignition and a flamethrower coil, bought from the the same people. Made two calls to them to make sure I didn't need a ballast resistor. I'm also using copper core 8mm spark plug wires. I believe my cap and rotor are in good shape, however, I'm only getting very limited spark that is not consistant. It did throw a few hot sparks, but not very many. Also, I can hear the arcing inside the cap when I turn the engine over, both with the flywheel and the starter. When I check the arcing inside cap and where rotor is, looks as though it is not arcing at the posts, but where it wants. I am getting 12 volts to the cap, but not beyond. Has this happened to any of you and how do I remedy this problem?? Thanks in advance

Kinda feel stupid, made a phone call, followed the advice from a member of the Rooster's Pit Crew and it turns out all I needed to do was advance the distributor just a wee bit in order to get the spark closer to the #1 tower. Now we have a heartbeat, not much of one, but yet a heartbeat. Will be putting the timing light on in the next couple of days hopefully getting the heartbeat where it needs to be.

I'm still going to check for 3ohms of resistance, don't want to buy another ignition. Thanks for yaws advice just the same.

Make sure your coil has 3 ohms resistance. On my first pertronix set up, I used a really hot Flamethrower, but it only had 1/2 an olm and burned up the conversion kit. That was my fault for not reading all the supplied paperwork and assuming a coil by the same company was compatible.

I had the same problem with my 51 A turns out I was using the wrong cap.I had a cap with vertical wire positions.I changed it to a horizontal wire cap ,problem solved.

For one reason or other, the sleeve with magnets that slides over the point cam to trigger the module is causing the spark to occur when the rotor is not indexed with a spark plug terminal in the distributor cap. You may have the wrong Pertronix or the wrong cap. You might try calling Pertronix Tech support @ (909)599-5955, and asking them.
