i have a 45 model allis chalmers wc and i want to put electronic ignition in it. it has a alternator on it with the 6 volt starter and a 12 volt battery. the kit said it would work with all 6 and 12 volt applications. if i put the coil and electronic ignition in it would i have to change anything else. it has a resistor in the wire going to the coil now so would i have to use it.

What make and model kit? There's lots out there, and it's kinda tough to guess which you have!

You will need to specify a 12-Volt kit.

If you get an original Pertronix kit, you can retain the coil and resistor setup you have. Connect the red wire from the Pertronix AHEAD of the resistor, so the module gets full battery voltage, and the coil is fed through the ballast resistor.

If you get a Pertronix II kit, you can eliminate the resistor and/or go to a "hotter" coil, IIRC, as low as .8 Ohm.
