M carb Problem

I am having a problem with the Farmall M carb.If it idles well it does not pull and if I give it more fuel it smokes when idling.Is there a carb off a IH combine that will interchange(maybe gain a few HP).Seems I have seen a post somewhere about this but I can't find it.

Clean the idle passages with compressed air. If still no change, look for vacuum leaks at the head. If no leak is present, run a compression test, if you have a small venturi and a high compression engine, will cause it to smoke richer at idle. You may need a larger venturi to let some more air in to lean it out. Put in a new idle screw, make sure the carb is cleaned out, see if it changes. If not, hope this helps. ChadS
