Pertronix Ignition

I just put an Pertronix ignition with the flame Thrower coil in my Farmall H. My tractor is a 12v. Do i have to run a resistor with this or not? When i had the tractor running the coil got warm with it on and with the resistor off to. Should the coil get warm? The tractor has 3 5/8 dome pistons and a mild cam grind. It is puttin out about 42 H.p. at 540 . Would a 300 or 350 head help the h.p. much. Which one would be better the gas head or an L.P head. will the sh or M carb help on h.p. also.

no resistor required if it's a 3 ohm coil if not you better get one Summit racing sells them .

The LP head is the way to go. It gives the most compression, but like Cliff said it will cost a great deal of money! Everybody is looking for the LP heads, I know a friend that bought a whole 350 Tractor for the LP head.

No resiter required for pertronix, and the coil will get warm, The LP head would be better BUT big$$$$$ and run it on race fule! So the 300/350 would work fine and be more cost efficent, Either Carb will help Hp some , What Head (number)do you have now?

I have the 8043 gas head with nothing done to it.

Its a high compression gas head for an H, without buying another head you can cut some off the surface BUT there thin to begin with! Maby .060! Port the head and a 3 angle valve job and match port the manifold you should get closer to 50 hp
