I have a 53 stage 1 Super H It has a C-164 engine.
Question is, with out having block work done can I order sleeves for a 300 or 350 farmall and get them installed. Would like to get as much as i can from the old girl with out boreing block. Not opposed to shaving the head a mite. This tractor will be used for the occasional weekend pull, but mainly need to keep it field ready for raking hay and other farm chores. Next thing is how do I get one of your govenor springs and a recurve kit for the dist.? And Should I decide to get the head milled how much should I leave, and where do you measure the head so there is no confusion for the machine shop. Want to avoid overheating and such. there are days here that get to 100+ and she needs to be a work tractor and a play thing. Thanks in advance. Herb

The blocks are different. Ive seen stage 2 have the same block casting as the 300-350 blocks. There is a year break that can distinguish the 2. Early SH's had a overbore of 3.5, newer had a 3-9/16. basicly the early 164 was a H block with very thin sleeves, with all the other SH parts. You did not see the new style block till you seen the stage 2 tractors with live hyd. My 53 Sh has a 3.5 bore, 8043DD head, shaved .100. Makes 43 hp. Pretty good puller under 4000lbs and never had troubles. Measure the head deck thickness around the oval water ports. keep it no thinner than .275 on the H heads. Whats left over can be milled off. Your Sh should have a 8043DD head, the casting number would be on the outside of the casting up by the manifold rather than under the valve cover, check to see what head you have, thats important to where to start building. Id just give it a good overhaul and head work. tune it in on a dyno and will be a pretty tough ol engine. 574-893-7437 for parts,, ChadS
