Trying to get this 291 motor back together and the machine shop says the new sleeves which were standard size are a little loose in the block. He says there is a special loctite to use to hold them in. Anybody been there done that and will it hold up long term? Tractor will not get a lot of hard extended use but don't want the torque of the head to bust 'em loose either. It's that or redeck the block and counterbore I guess. Thanks Migraine

yup, sleeve retainer is what you are looking for.
it is green and heat does not effect it like normal lock tite.
we use it to glue the flywheel bolts in the bigger pullers and i would think a 5 disc clutch would make a bunch more heat than a sleeve will.
the floater plates are normally blued after a couple passes and it still about pops a vessel to break them loose.

the problem with this is that heat will over time distroy the locktite . I see you did not pay attenshion to the bore classfication stamped into the top of the block as it is probably all C-D class block and if they are not PRESS FIT thenit WILL suck the new sleeves down around the crank . When one is working on the 6 Cyl. I H engines you must pay attenshion to bore Class and get the correct sleeve for that hole as there are two bore classifacations here you have the A-B and a standard sleeve fits the way it is suppose to the the C-D class that the sleeve is oversized then ya have to make sure on how the sleeve sets in the countor bore . OR the other way is bore all the holes install a repair sleeve and bore it to take the standard sleeve.

Define the term a little loose. Don't forget the heat from combustion has to transfer through the sleeve to the block and then to collant. Loctite is not friendly to heat transfer. Now there is a company that makes funny repair sleeves that are held in by some type of compound. They demonstrated it to us once, don't remember the name of it right now.

The machinist said that the sleeves go in within last 2 inches with hand press then tap lightly the rest of the way. Just didn't feel they were as snug as they should be? He said he has used this loctite on several occasions with no problems but would not guarantee it long term. I don't want this thing to blow up 100 hours from now. Migraine

the 291 sleeves do not press in as hard as a 263 or a 282 sleeve put it together torqe the head run it 15 hrs re torqe the head, and have many merry christmases running it, use the locktite for something else,

Yes. We used it on a block that had the same problem. We set the sleeves in after glueing them, then put on the old head gasket and torqued the head down, let the loctite dry for 24 hrs and they went from turnin by hand in the block, to I can get these things out! I think its called sleeve retainer, bout 30 bucks a small bottle. ChadS
