I went to Tallmadge pull on Saturday and it was a good turn out and a nice pull. Talked with many pullers and I didn't find one that wasn't very friendly and there was a lot of good tractors. I did see two or three DQ's I didn't feel was right and two or three DQ's that was let go and I didn't think that was right. Oh well you'll have that cause that's pulling LOL ! Just wanted to say thanks to all the pullers for making a nice day of pulling. Also wanted to say to NATPA, good job from my view and it was a nice pull. I wasn't sure of what was going on most of the time and that was the case with most of the people there and for that I have to thank the announcer. I can understand him not telling the people what was going on because he had no idea of what was going on himself. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for a good day and a good pull to the pullers and NATPA.

I also thought it was an overall good pull, but as someone does not go to a lot of NATPA pulls I had to wonder where are all the div.5 tractors? Is there always that low of numbers in that class? I was really disapointed that those two good looking molines did'nt even pull against each other, it was like they took turns winning. Maybe it's just me, but it seems kind of dumb to have a bunch of classes with one tractor in them.

Div 4/5 each have some classes that have low numbers, but anything looks low when you compare it to Div 2/3 numbers. The two Molines ran against each other at Wauseon, Ohio (look under Wauseon for results) USAP 8/12 mph classes usually have less than NATPA classes. The biggest problem is there are too many weight classes that splits people up and lowers numbers. Div4/5 needs to go up 1000 lbs after the 4500# class. Also high fuel costs, high entry fees, no payback to speak of, it is a struggle to attend many pulls. A lot of people have ideas, maybe they can build something or bring there puller instead of complaining.

I think you will see less classes in the future at this type of pulls.Pulling organizations including USAP say they have a class for everybody. But if there is nobody or one or two your not going to travel for that. Less classes a must to keep tractor pulling strong.

The solution to div.5 numbers is simple, but most people in NATPA don't want to hear it. Div. 5 should be open rpm's, that is what it should have been from day one, if you want to pull limited antique there are 4 other divsions you can pull in but div 5 should be open. There are non-turbo tractors all over the country who would pull if the rpm's were open, there were 4-6 tractors within 50 miles of Tallmadge that would qualify. Eaton Ohio had 18 tractors at an invitation only pull in div. 5, BMTPA runs that class over the summer and always gets 10-15 tractors. That class has good color and puts on a great show. No offense to the guys with the Molines (which are awesome looking tractors by the way) but anything with less than 800 inches does not have a chance when pulling with an rpm limit, because usally we can make up what we don't have in ci with rpm's and when you can't do that you don't have a chance. You want to improve numbers, open it up. On the other hand, if you like pulling by yourself and NATPA is happy with the numbers thats fine to. We have plenty of pulls to go to. One last thing, don't anyone get on here and give me that bunch of crap about insurance and open rpm's being unsafe, pulls all over the country run open classes, if you enforce safety equippment and steel flywheels they are just as safe as anything else. Open the rpm's and you would have plenty of tractors, bottom line.
