What to do with the oil ring?

I have a 37 JD A with a .125 bore and 7.5 stroke.
Last year I ran 620 pistons but I wanted more compression, so I bought late A pistions. But Late A pistons do not have a oil ring past the wrist pin like the 620 piston. My question is do I need to make the last compression wider for the oil ring or can I just leave it off. I would like to keep it as a compression because the first two go past the spark plug hole. Everyones input would be greatly needed. Thanks

JD A PULLER..working on 7 1/2 in unstyled a now and finished 8 inch coupla months ago..we used some old m&w pistons from the 40 to 47 models..rings were lower than the late a pistons and the ones you buy now..know what you are talking about on the rings..we had some of the thin oil rings that came years ago and put them on 4th groove three compression rings with 13 inch rod takes top ring to bottom of hole on the 8 inch..on the 7 1/2 used oil ring on 4th groove then two compression leaving off top ring with 13.460 inch rod..i know you have already bought pistons but it might have been better to weld a plate on top of the 620 pistons as they have better rings in my opinion..could you have lengthed the rods to raise the compression use the bottom ring on the 620 and leave off the top ring..setting last a up to be about 9 1/2 compresson..8 inch has 11:1..finish it next week and see what the dyno has to say about the compression..lynn

Leave ring off below pin put new oil ring in groove above pin drill oil return holes in bottom of piston ring groove

Bore out the block for 70 pistons, 5.875 bore. Short piston. Then run long rods. Gain around 33,34 cu. Nice set up.

built an A about 15 yrs ago bored .125 and 7.25 stroke..... i just left the oil ring off..... may not have been the best thing to do.....i was only 10 yrs old myself at the time..... ..but it pulled strong for an A at the time!!!! HAHA
