Pull a JD-G

Thinking of putting a Pulling Cam and Roller Rockers on my 51 JD-G. Tractor is .090 over on bore with stock stroke and flat head with stock valves and gas manifold. There has been some porting on the manifold to remove baffles. It turns 68-70 horsepower on the dyno, and is pulled in speed limit classes of 3mph and 5mph that allow 30% over on RPM's. What size roller rockers should I use with the pulling cam for this setup. How much cash are we talking about price wise for a roller rocker and pulling cam package and where/who is the best place to buy one for a John Deere G?

68-70 h.p. with only .90 over and a flat head?I question those numbers big time.Put your roller money and stick it into the crankcase and gain a ton of torque instead of worrying about dyno numbers.

JD-G If you are getting 68 to 70 horsepower out of a stock stroke G with .090 over pistons I wouldn't do anything to it. Sounds like it is doing well the way it is. Lynn

I can think of alot of other things than roller rockers on a 2cyl to increase performance...

Yeah..... .but I also know that some people have made pretty big #'s on the dyno by just bolting on a set of rockers. Its not the roller tip that really increases the performance, its the increased ratio.

The roller tip does gain you a little power, but the main advantage is decreased scrubbing on the valve stem, less stress on the guides, etc.

It has the stock cam right now, been thinking about putting a pullin cam in the G with a set of roller rockers. How much will they run cost wise, and is it worth it. Would like an extra 5-8 horsepower, will this be possible?

I have heard of a stock 70 that gained 8hp by bolting on the rockers. I would expect your results to be simular. The rocker arms are $300 and a camshaft is about the same. I know its a lot of money, but I think you can benefit from both the cam and the rockers.

Like Drew said.. its the ratio... it will depend on what kind of lift you have on the cam now..
