JD 4020 Hub and Rim upgrade

I have a 67 4020 gas. It currently has 16's on it. I want to put 18.4x34 rubber on it. To upgrade, do I need to get a new hub as well as the rim? Or can I get a 18.4x34 rim on the current hubs? I plan on pulling with it. I think the 18.4x34 rubber would out-do the origional 16's that are on it. What do you think? Also, Do any of you know where there are any cheap salvage yards for rims in Iowa? Any help is greatly appriciated! Thanks for your time,

When you say it has "16's" on do you mean 16.9X34? If so what is the width of your current rim (inside of bead to inside of opposite bead)? Assuming that you have 34" diameter rims now all you need to mount 18.4X34's on it are a pair of 16" wide X 34" dia rims. 16" width is the prescribed width for a 18.4 tire, but they will work on a 15" rim if that's what you have now. If the tractor has 16.9X38 tires on it now I would replace with 18.4X38's using the same logic. An 18.4 width tire will also work well with a 18" wide rim if you would find a set of those worth the money. You won't need to replace the centers if you replace with the same diameter tire. Mike

If your going to change rubber, I would go to a 18.4 x 38" instead of the 18.4 x 34". That's just my thoughts, taller tire will give you more rubber/lugs or bars on the ground. I have a 4010 that I pull and run 20.8 x 38" rubber with about 140 hp. You'll be happier with the taller tire.
