I watch the old stock tractors such as 730JD,400Farmal,460 Internationals,D19 AC,etc. pulling.

They are all weighted within 40 pounds of each other, all well driven, all use the same part of the well prepared track, all hitches are same height, all carrying the front end for a good distance before they stop, gear speed approx. the same, tire area the same, tread pattern the same, all spin out at the end; no lack of power, but some brands consistantly out pull others.

The bottom line is: all the tractors get basically the same traction so there must be an ingredient I am missing here. I am only a beginner and don"t much about this.

Watch again and you can see several "identical" make and model tractors pull in the same class. And they can and will place all over from last to 1st.

Luck, Luck, Luck ... did the allis have 38" rubber? The 400 has a longer wheelbase than a M, Deeres have the great low end power. The 400 and the allis have a hi/lo shifer, deere's have creeper gearing...every little bit helps. It helps the most to be a little lucky.

One guy does better than anyone else out here most of the time, I think Balance & more power to the tires.

Any tractor that is setup correctly weight, hitch, and tire wise, with the right driver can be competitive. Any sometimes it boils down to luck also, luck of your pulling position, and spot on the track you choose.

Take a better look at the tires each tractor had.Look at how the hitch points are supported.Look at how the weights are placed on the tractor. Sometimes the driver makes a difference!
