I have a completely rebuilt stock 77 motor with head shaved pretty far and carb built a little. 3 3/4 pistons. Pulling with the stock points in 4500 stock class I ran never ran out of power until I put the electronic ign. in . The timing is dead set on what the manual calls for. I'm wondering if I need to advance it a little more???? thanks

My 77 sounds built like yours. Do you have access to a dyno? Electronic should start easier and lug down easier. I run Autolite 386 for plugs. My cylinder pressure is right at 205. Let me know how you make out... (PS....There's no slop in the dist??)

No I don't have access to a dyno wish I did.Makes it a lot easier. What classes do you pull in and what gear do you pull in. I normally pull in second gear about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle to stay under speed limits. What tires do you run, is it original or did you strip it to get down to 3500. I have until april to get it done. Plus I have a few other engines I'm doing now for some other people. drop me your email add. and I email and let you know how I did with adjusting it. Good talking to you. have a good one/

I pull in the 4000 4500 and 5000. My tractor weighs just under 4000 with me on-wide front with belt pulley and pto. (don't ask). I run 13.6 X 38 rears because of some clubs not letting bigger tires in. 2'nd gear when there's a speed limit, if not 3'rd. I have a slow ring and pinion which really helps. In 6'th gear I'm barely 10 mph. I have electronic on both my Olivers and really never had a problem. My old tractor has one on now for about 10 years.

Ive found that these conversions, that book specs are not enough. They change the timing enough to where it needs to be altered from stock settings. on points, the spark is a little weaker, and it will tend to not light the mixture all the way,, the new setup will light it all, and makes a more complete burn, so you can run a little more fuel, and run a bit more timing and make some more power. think about what happens inside the cyl, whats going on,, then compensate, usually the plugs will be leaner cause your burning all the fuel now, where before, the points were limiting you on how much you can ignite. OK THANKS FOR THE REPLY. wE ALREADY ADJUST THE CARB UP A LITTLE MIGHT GO A LITTLE MORE ON THAT END AND THEN SEE HOW THE PLUGS ARE BURNING. i HAVE THE HOTTEST PLUG IN THERE NOW. aS FAR AS THE TIMING GOES WHAT DO YOU THINK TRY A DEGREE OR TWO AND TRY IT. SEE HOW IT STARTS AND RUNS AND LOADS DOWN. THANKS FOR THE HELP
