Do any pullers out there participate in showing their tractors at collector club or local shows? I know M-M guys get a kick out of big horsepower puller Molines at the conventions and shows. Saw WTW's Deere B last night on TV at the RFD channel last night. Anyone else show off their power next to the field and show machines?

It was because some pullers coming through our area on the weekend of our Labor Day show several years ago, were willing to stop & display their pullers that my Dad & I got interested in pulling.

Hi Mopower, you know the answer from me, since I am pink and proud I participate in every show that I can. It is really great because alot of people that attend the shows do not attend the pulls and with pullers being present at the shows it helps to bring more spectators to the pulls. Not only that, it may help to convert some of the collectors that show, into pullers. The more the merrier. There is a large show comming up I will post a new post to let everyone know about it. How is that design coming along?

Mopower, We used to do allot more shows in years past than we do anymore. The video on RFD TV that you seen my sons pulling tractor and my BI on was shot at Mount Pleasant Iowa the last time we had the B Industrial out and would have been in September of 1998. That show like many others we used to attend, I kind of got soured on due to the old cronies running it. The reason the pulling tractor was at that show is it was on the truck to go to a tractor pull the same weekend and it was fairly new to the world at the time. It was the first year that Old Threshers started to feature a given / different brand of tractor every year at Mount Pleasant. If you had something of the featured brand they said you could bring anything / age of that brand that you felt was interesting so we took the puller along. The pulling tractor got allot more attention than the rare collector BI tractor did which I have learned is quit common at shows. That show like some others that I do not attend anymore had some person that thought had some authority make the mistake of voicing his opinion of what he thought should and should not be there. I am not one to argue with people very much but, when I tell them what I am going to do about there opinion I pretty much am a man of my word. I told this old geezer at the time that it was no big deal and it was going to be there loss not mine because not only will I not bring the puller back the rare Industrial tractor will not return either. The Industrial tractor is one of 181 ever built and is piticulously restored mechanical and physical. Since 1992 when I restored it, it has only been shown at less than 10 different events total. It does get a lot of compliments and attention, but if show promoters think they are going to dictate to me what I can and can't show it will just stay home under its blanket. I used to be an annual attendee of the Mid West Old Threshers Reunion before this deal and I had not missed a reunion for twenty five years running. Since they showed there appreciation I have not attended a Reunion since. Guess that old geezer won't have to worry about that little pulling tractor hurting his show now does he!! Great show, great people. I know for a fact that there had never been one of these rare Industrial tractors ever shown at that show before mine and don't know if there had ever been one shown since. To bad one guy can spoil it for the rest. Dave Wickman

If people want to restore their tractor to mint factory...great. If people want to paint a tractor, use any gauge, hose clamp, etc. they wish to use because of prices (like me)....great. If they wish to bore, stroke, modify their tractors for pulling (like me).... great. If they don't wish to paint, use bailing wire, bubble gum, duct tape, to make it run.... great. Tractors are tractors, they make the show, all should be welcome. At shows in Tennessee (especially the one I am personally involved in) people will run over each other to see a stout tractor pulling, or a tractor sitting there that they are in disbelief that it would even run. I'm not knocking all these people, but the ones that have these trailer queens (guys that rope off their tractor, constantly wipe on it, and walk around with their noses stuck in the air looking at tractors like mine shaking their heads because of hose clamps, etc. that are not proper) can chap me at times. Im not saying you are one of these (you have both and appreciate both). Tractors are tractors they should come one come all. I personally like to be busy with mine instead of sitting under an umbrella passing out pictures of restoration stages and walking around pointing fingers at incorrect restorations in their mind. This will always exist and makes me ashamed sometimes to be a John Deere enthusiast (they are the snootiest).

I agree Dave and toot---to each his own. It's your tractor, show it, work it, pull it, whatever suits you the owner. Having been a show tractor buff in the past and now a puller for the last few years, I also see both sides. For me personally, I like pulling better than showing. Some pull tractors have as good of paint job as some trailer queens-- that galls the TQ owner. Some people have been to several shows and have never been around antique pullers, so the puller gets more attention--that galls the TQ owner. The TQ owner used 3 parts tractors to build his semi-rare, better than factory built master piece, BUT the puller owner has destroyed a valuible piece of history to make a puller. Anything the puller does galls the TQ owner. How many shows do you know of that were dieing until they added a pull to the activies? How many shows add the number of hooks to their attendance numbers?(Last year our show had 400 tractors--they don't tell you 137 were hooks at the hated pull.) There should be a place for everyone in this hobby AND some should know their place. IT's supposed to be about fun with old tractors--not whose right or wrong on every minor detail. TOOT-- some JD owners are bad snobs, but they ain't the only ones.

We have shown tractors, paraded tractors, pulled tractors and plowed with antique tractors. I would say they all are fun and rewarding but if I had to put them in order of most enjoyment to the least I would have to say that pulling has been the most fun, then plowing, then showing and the least fun would be parading. I never went on any of the tractor ride events and guess they to would be alright but I just do not have the time to do that. Tractor pulling you get to show off your handy work and pulling skills. Plowing is the same only different kind of skills and you also have another piece of machinery to expand and show your skills with (I really do enjoy plowing). Attending shows takes more time, you do get the reward of showing your tractors and restoration skills off, talking to people and oh yes putting up with opinions goes along with that. Parading is just plain boring in my book and really not that exciting at all. I agree too with both you guys (Toot / Super Lurker) that everybody should do what they enjoy to do with what they have. As the old saying goes: "Good Thing We All Don't Enjoy Doing The Same thing" DW

I agree with ya WTW completly. It is a great feeling to get a good hook and place when there is anywhere from 10 to 30 tractors in your class. It feels like a big accomplishment to make yours get farther than anybody else. Some of the shows I been to was boring.
