I was just wondering how much HP is averagly needed to pull in 3500, 4000, and 4500 div IV classes. Also how low of weight is a reasonable goal for a massey 44?

That is kind of true. There is actualy two frames for a 44. The row crop which is *approx* 6 inches longer than the standard. It looks to me like the 30 used the same frame as the 44 standard. The 33 and 333 appear to have been a mish/mash of both.

I would NOT recomend building a 30 as a puller even if you could get it that light.

How does a 30 pull with the 3 speed? I was thinking of building one of them for stock classes.

never mind, i dont know what i was thinking, its a 5 speed.
About 3500 lbs, 162 ci. Sound like it has some potential for $5000 cubic dollars and pulling it in stock classes.

Your 44 can't pull below 4500,but to answer your question,in 35/3750 it will take 120 to do well,4000/4250 you'll need 150.At 4500 you'll run into 585 Olivers and 609 Farmalls so you'll need 180+.If you have some mechanical ability and can do some of your own work you won't need $20,000, but if you decide to spend that much you can!

Spending 20K on a stock blocked tractor, just to pull against non stock blocked tractors, does not seem like much fun. id think if 20K is what it takes, you may as well use a 33 frame, stick the 44 engine in it and pull div 5! Would not be much different than running a 88-310 engine in the 77's in 3500-4250. Do they let the 77's in div 4 run the big block 6cyl? May as well buy a tractor already built, it may save you some cash, or it could cost you a fortune if it's not up to snuff mechanicly. Tough decision. Chad

Most clubs won't let you pull lighter than 4500 lb class in Div 4. So build it big when you do. 140 hp should be enough.

Figure about $20,000 cubic dollars to do it successfully in NATPA, or about 130-180 hp in 3500lb class. You can do it with 100 and run well..Heck, I have seen 85 -90 hp tractors do well in some occasions..AC
