I know the starter issue has been discussed on here several times. I am building a 1949 Model
A John Deere with a little stroke and high compression. I was just wondering what starter some of you pullers are running on an A where the starter is mounted on the bottom of the tractor.I am thinking the stock starter might not be quite enough to spin it over since it will not have compression releases. Maybe some kind of reduction gear starter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I run a late '47 A with approx. 225-230 lbs. of cylinder pressure. G & R Rebuilders of St. Paul, MN 651-644-7743 did the starter about 4 years ago, with very good results. Are you running a Mag or Dist. for ignition?
