Gold is the weakest tension, silver is the second weakest tension, and the black is the strongest in the Napa kit I have. I use the second, or middle spring set. You will have to stretch it just a little but it will go. Governors, depends on what rpm and governor style you have, if you have the plain jane 2 weight, we have a good spring for that setup, and if it has a 4 weight governor, it takes a different spring. Mainly it is puting in a stiffer tension spring, that will not cause problems in idling upon installation. Usually what happens is, they get springs too short, and they will idle very high, cant bring em back down, even with adjustments on the linkage. We did the homework for you, and all you have to do is install it and go, and if it does idle high, this spring will let you adjust the linkages to get it to idle back down without hurting high rpm settings. Stiffer spring will activate the governor faster upon acceleration from the handlever, will hold higher rpm more consistanly, and everything inbetween. CHad
