Have an IH 281 block with two cracks in #4 cylinder. Have been advised to bored out to accept a sleeve, sleeve it, and have the sleeve welded in at both top and bottom.

Anyone know of a reputable place to have this done in or around PA?

Any good/bad experiences with this??

Thanks!

If you need a block bored and sleeves welded in I have a furnace to heat the block and weld the sleeves in.I can also repair heads and manifolds that are cracked. 231-584-3322

"Muggy Weld" if you want to weld or silver solder sleeves in.

Any good automotive machine shop should be able to bore the block and press a permanent sleeve in the cracked cylinder. There is no need to weld anything.

I would think that any typical engine shop could handle this one, nothing special required... I had a Ford 352 V8 with a cracked cyl wall... took it (dis-assembled)to machine shop with the old piston... they bored, "dry" sleeved it, and rebored/honed to the old piston and there were no welds that I saw. It was "cheap" and it ran fine after that with no leaks... Jim

If youre not too far from Frederick, Md., Automotive Parts & Machine, Dave Featherstone, 301-663-8866, specializes in head and block repair. Fixed an M head for me, head was BAD!, did a great job.
