thanks chads, thats what ill do, run sleeveless with 301 pistons, local machine shop says he can redo my head, port it and clean up around the valves. but they not sure about bigger valves yet. was wanting more compression but will be happy just getting it running good. if its not set up for good weight transfer extra horses arent going to help much anyway, just want to have some fun pulling but dont want to be last either.

On my 560 I used the 3 3/4 overbore kit with the high altitude pistons. They had a nice dome on them.I also used the head off of a 301c.i that I robbed off an 806.Some I.H truck heads can be used.E-mail is open.Eric

You would have more $$ in making a 291 than just going big and build a 301,,, The piston kits are more expencive for the 291 than the 301. 301 bore is 3-13/16 and all you have to do is bore the block and buy pistons. No sleeves. Look for the best price on 301 kits. Napa has em for 80 bucks a hole,,, but can be bought much cheaper. Truck heads are the ultimate setup, but you can port and polish the tractor head and get close to the truck head. The truck heads are a high compression head, like the LP heads of the Letter series IH tractors. Good for about 20 hp. JMHO,ChadS
