Our club rules are 1st gear and 10% over RPM for stock antique ,looking to build a tractor for 4000 lbs and under.

Is a WC allis with a WD45 crankshaft better than a wd45 build stock to pull under these rules

A friend of mine has pulled both models. WC is a little lighter, you can use same basic motor in either tractor, older model WC's didn't have starter, and they had hand brakes (not very handy). He likes his WD's alot better.

WD with D-17 motor or a WD45 with same works well, I don't think the WD is that much heavier than a WC especially if your aiming for 4000#. My WD is 3240 by itself.

I like the unstyled look for pulling, the wc wouldn't have the hand clutch ect. so the wc should be lighter and later parts fit. I'd build a wc if I was an AC man.

I have a 1942 military WC that I pull with. The motor is a 4 1/8"X 4" stroke and is around 40h.p. My WC weighs in at 3260 with me on the tractor. I pull the 3600 pound class, and this past year, I wasn't out of the top three unless I had motor problems. Very competitive, plus I still have the ability to use it on farm jobs and not have any problems. While we are on the topic, does anybody know if you can put the 4 1/8" flat top pistons into a WD block and run a 4 1/2" WD-45 crankshaft? I have been told I can do this, but I would like to have further advice. Thanks guys!!
