is there anyone who is or knows someone who has been successful with a JD 435 used as a puller?
would like to speak with them as have an interest in pulling such.

Are you in Pa? If you are where where you last saturday? There was 2 of them pulling at Anties Fort(Jersey Shore Pa) and they both pull well,BUT i bet you won't get to see them in action mutch more this year, CLIFF S

Buickanddeere has a couple and has pulled them some, but I don't think it was ultra competitive pulling. He can and has given advice here before with regards to which 1010 parts interchange to make them a little more stout to stand up to the extra power that the little Detroit is capable of.

It looks to me like it's tough to get one down to 3500 lbs and 4500 has some stiff competition. You will pull against JD A, B, 50, Oliver 77, 88, Farmall H and the list goes on. Many of those tractors are on 38" rubber which has a lot of advantage over your 28" rubber. The 435 was available with 10-34 tires so you could switch up and still be "legal" most places.

You would probable need at least 13.6 or 14.9-34 tires to really compete and I think you will start to fall short on power with that much rubber.

I guess I will find out in the spring. My uncle recently acquired a 435 and we intend to play around pulling it. If we stumble onto something, I will let you know.

The harder the track the better a short tires tractor like a 435 does. Top 5% of class every time if ballanced right. Soft tracks need a deep lug 45 degree tire but I havn't rounded up and tried them yet. Drawbar has to be stretched out to max length as well on soft tracks. Is your class limited to factory tires of can a set of 38's be bolted on. A two valve 2-53 tops out at about 60HP at 2400rpm unless seriously built. The torque curve is flat rather than bulging up as rpm drop when lugging. With road worn 16.9x30 FireStone All Traction Field and Road tires. I can't quite make it on soft track in 2nd gear. The R&P and finals are too high a ratio. Early and late version 1010's will slow the speeds 15% or so at the R&P and another 15% at the finals. She needs agear between the factory 1st & 2nd. That put 2nd gear 1/2 way between
