I pull a H Farmall, it has 140 to 150 psi compression on the pistons,I have a superH carb. fitted with a 450 jet and venturi, running 300 head and cam. The last two pulls I was at I was at the 220 and the 260 pull mark hit soft spots at both times, let off of the fuel, once out of the hole I went to give it the gas and it fell on its face and died. The tractor was under a hard pull. What is happening when this happens.

It ran out of power. Venturi needs to go back down to the #23 to peak torque in this set up. the guy who said your set up is for high rpms was on the money. It will fall on its face everytime when the venturi is too big for the engine. your carb will run a 281 cubic inch motor, and you only have 152. The vacuum pressure dropped when the rpms dropped and could not recover due to the engine taking to big of breath and killed the low end torque. The carb is fine, just reduce the venturi size back to 23, which was used in the SH-350. That will give it more lugging power if your jet is big enough. Chad

Put the correct carb back on it, sounds like more fuel then you need to develope horse power.
Most the time people over do it on gas and air, you don`t gain one more horse, you lose, proven this time and time again with the dyno.

If you have stock H cubic inches, the 450 venturi is too big.Put the SH venturi back in and try it again, especially if you like to back off under a hard pull.

Why are you letting off the gas? You have brakes to slow the tires down. Except for the ones that are really built, Farmalls aren"t known for their lugging ability.

You have to remember, that Deeres are the only tractors built back then that had brakes that are worth a crap..... ..

You can look at the brakes on my tractor and tell they have been used hard, there isnt any paint left on them :)

JD B puller and Drew wouldn't have a clue what would be wrong, neither have ever seen the END of a track.

Digger and SuperMPuller, who pi$$ed in your Cherios? I don't see where you think someone is starting $hit. I've only seen a couple tractors that could throttle down and pick up like nothing - a D-17 that pulled 4500# class comes to mind. I offered my advice not to throttle back and Drew stated that the brakes on the Deere were much better than on the Farmall, meaning that you may not be able to stop the wheel slip as easy. I can definately agree with that, the Super H we used to cut wood with would fly down the road, but good luck stopping it.Not sure why you want to turn this into some sort of color war.

And SuperMPuller, no I wouldn't know what you're talking about, mine does't die down at the end of the track.

I can hook you to my unstyled A JD and when your H gives up I can pull you down to that part of the track your H will never see, just trying to be helpful.

Sounds like you need another color tractor! Just kidding. The fuel sounds like it may be set to run right at high rpm, but at low it may be loading up a little and can"t clear itself back up. Just an idea. PS if you hit that soft spot at about 10mph it wouldn"t be as much of a factor! WFO!

Check your coil and ignition system....I had the same thing happen to me and something happend to the coil that would not allow the tractor to work well at all under load in low rpm's. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out and turns out it was the coil. I also have a farmall H setup similar to yours just a few more HP. Hope this helps.

You are setup for high rpm hp not low end torque. By backing out of the throttle, you are letting it get too far below it's peak and it can't recover.

You don"t know how to pull, never mess with the gas. I tried it both ways, backing off when it starts to spin and leaving it full bore, full bore works best.

I learned to not let off the throttle in soft spots after loosing a couple of pulls by bogging her down.

Your venturi might be too big if your rpms get too low. If your venturi is too big, you sacrifice velocity, and fuel mixing at low rpms.
