I pull a 39 jd b and have a couple of questions. It has a 7 1/4" stroke, farmall rods, 530 pistons .045 over, a flat head, about 10:1 compression, battery ignition and MSD 6A. It has 13.6 x 38 cut tires. was wondering what some other pullers think of the combination and any tips they might have. it has a slight hesitation under heavy load. it will lose momentum for a split second and then come right back to life. what may be the problem

BushogPapa has given you some good advice and is something you should check and verify is correct. I would add one more thing to his suggestion and that is make sure that the control rod between the carburetor and governor is not binding or touching anything as it will give you the symptoms you have. The other thing that can also cause this type of symptom is a carburetor throttle shaft binding / dragging in the shaft bushings. This is common on carburetors that have had shaft and or bushings replace and not properly sized for each other. Just make sure there is no binding in throttle controls in these areas. To check for binding unhook the control rod between lever and governor spring and check for free and completer travel of governor and carburetor. With the bore and stroke you have it should produce pretty good results for a B. Good Luck. DW

Sounds like the governor rods need adjusted... The one to the carb should be adjusted "width of the rod short"... Adjusted correctly, the governors will snap open Immediately..!!!! They should be "Real Snappy"... All gas 2-cylinder JD's should be real snappy, or they get a bad start on a load...
