I pull all road wore tires and am looking in to the possibility of sharpening some. I have traction torque at about 30% right now and they do well on bad loose tracks. What would be the optimal tread height for different kinds of pulling track surfaces? I've seen tires cut anywhere from 10-75% tread angled back at all angles.

I have cut a boat load at 3/4 front or shorter with a back relief to 0. the front edge angle is very important also. Have to agree 151"s are the best all around tire -just in short supply.

Ethan:

Without trying to be evasive or smart about it, I doubt that there is one right answer. Clay is different than silt loam. The track changes as the day of pulling progresses. Out here in the upstate New York area 151s seem to have an edge on good clay, old 45s seem to have an edge on plain old dirt and looser tracks. It all depends on what you have to work with when it is your turn to hook. The variables are almost endless. best, Phil

Most of our pulling surface is clay with some moisture in it. I"m thinking "power track" conditions. I kick butt on most loose stuff.
